Men of Arkansas - Painting by Mort Künstler, Permission given to use.Following the War Between the States, the surviving Southern soldiers came together to form a veterans organization known as the United Confederate Veterans [UCV]. While never neglecting this important part of our mission, in the 21st century we find ourselves at the forefront of another and more critical battle, a battle for our very identity and for our very beliefs.

Oklahoma is rich in its history and connections to the Confederacy.  All five of the "Civilized Tribes", the Cherokee, the Chickasaw, the Choctaw, the Creek (Muskogee), and the Seminole tribes signed treaties with the Confederate States of America and fought in the War for Southern Independence. Just to our east, Indian troops served in the major battles of Wilson's Creek and Pea Ridge. Within Indian Territory itself, there were also battles at Round Mountain and Perryville, Locust Grove and Fort Wayne, Cabin Creek and Honey Springs.

Brig. Gen. Stand WatieThe last Confederate General to stand down was Brig. Gen. Stand Watie, a Cherokee.  On June 23, 1865, long after the war in the east had ended, Watie agreed to cease-fire terms at Ft. Towson in Choctaw Nations area of Indian Territory.

Through a variety of programs, like educational initiatives, historical commemorations and legislative initiatives to insure that our heritage is protected and legal action to protect the rights of our citizens to express publicly their heritage, we are advancing the colors. If you are a male aged 12 or older, we ask you to consider membership in the Oklahoma Division, USCSA. It's not just our heritage, but yours too, join us and help keep it alive and vibrant for future generations to come!

Thank you for visiting our site.  We hope that you will find much of interest on these pages.  The Oklahoma Division, Inc. of the USCSA is here to serve and make a real difference in Oklahoma.
